RUTH WILHMENIA SMITH, 85, formerly of E. Lee Street, Hagerstown, Md., died on Thursday, July 29, 2010 in Frederick, Maryland.
Born December 13, 1924 in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Marie W. Hamp Shields.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Smith.
She was a member of St. Mark�s Lutheran Church.
She had been employed with the Dietary Department of Washington County Hospital for 27 years, retiring in 1990.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Mercer and husband Paul of Frederick, Md.; a son, Joseph Smith and wife Marcia of Hagerstown; two sisters, Martha Harrier of Tyrone, Pa. and Effie Hoover and husband Howard of Altoona, Pa.; a brother, John Shields and wife Evelyn of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Virgie A. Smith of Hagerstown; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and step-son.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md. Rev. Quentin J. Fleming will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
