RODNEY WESLEY RIPPEON, 62, of 1029 West Washington Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, died at his home on July 18, 2010.
Born March 2, 1948 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Glenn R. and Grace Dodd Rippeon.
He graduated in 1966 from Frederick High School, where he excelled in football and baseball, and was active in the theater. In 1971, he received a BA in theater from the University of Maryland.
He was currently employed with First Data in their sales and customer services division, and previously in auto and real estate sales in Frederick, Maryland, for twenty years.
He loved spending time outdoors, and enjoyed hunting as a younger man. In his later years, he enjoyed fishing, cooking on his grill, winter walks, and visiting the Outer Banks. He was known as an avid reader, and he especially enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of history, wildlife, and natural phenomena with friends and family. He had also been an active member of the Governor Thomas Johnson High School Band Boosters.
He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Rippeon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one son, Andrew W. Rippeon, and wife Lisa, of Buffalo, New York; three sisters, Susan Stull of Hagerstown, Patricia Miller of Bendersville, Pennsylvania, and Barri Avallone of Frederick, Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews; and many long-time friends.
He previously attended Trinity Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church , 15 Randolph Ave., Hagerstown, Maryland on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 6:00 PM. The Rev. Eric Norgard will officiate. There will be no viewing, and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
